One of Bali’s oldest and most historical sites, Gunung Kawi is an 11th-century temple complex located within a lush river valley and overlooking a rushing river. Visitors will find 10 giant shrines, each 7 meters high, carved directly into the face of a rock cliff. The shrines are thought to be dedicated to King Anak Wungsu of the Udayana dynasty. Visiting this spot will add a nice cultural touch to your Bali trip, and it’s just an hour’s drive away from Seminyak!

Wanagiri Hidden Hill is a whole different world in Bali’s Bedugul-Munduk area where it is lush, hilly, and green. The temperature is cool and chilly and there are magnificent crater lakes to view from great vantage points high above the ground. Here’s where you’ll find the famous Swing and Hanging Birds Nest, all overlooking Lake Buyan.  While you’re here, you can always support the local farmers by purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables from the vendors in the market. Don’t forget to try Bedugul’s famously sweet strawberries!

Tirta Gangga is an ancient water palace built by the late King of Karangasem with pools, bridges, and floating pavilions. There are ponds filled with glittering koi fish, fountains, and beautiful statues. It’s great for a day out. If you’re feeling up to it, you can stroll through the villages that surround Tirta Gangga or visit Mount Lempuyang and Mount Agung since they are all in close proximity to this beautiful historical landmark.

Sidemen Village – Karangasem

Located in Karangasem, East Bali, Sidemen is a peaceful little town in the countryside, surrounded by verdant hills and rice fields. There are many cottages, guesthouses, and little boutique villas here run by the locals themselves. You can walk in the rice fields, relax by the pool surrounded by rice fields and hills and even enjoy a little stroll around the town on your own or with a guide. It’s all just so breathtakingly peaceful and the only sounds you’ll hear are the birds, the wind and water rushing by in the streams. This is a wonderful, quaint, and authentic little town, perfect for an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life!
